Tango Museum

Museo del Tango

It is located on the ground floor of Salvo Palace, where “La Giralda” patisserie used to be at the beginning of the 20th century and where “La Cumparsita”, the famous tango written by Gerardo Matos Rodríguez, was played for the first time.

Visit the museum is transporting yourself to a cafe from the 1900s, with its wood finishes, superb walls and dimmed lights.

Some unique and funny elements are the gramophones of 1900 that still work and surprise all visitors when they see them working properly.

In there you can find a statue of Matos Rodriguez composing music, the original piano from the Sorocabana Cafe and the history of Uruguayan tango is in its walls.
